Teleki Upsweep gives the closest experience to that of climbing Mount Kenya to the peak. The hike starts at Met Station at 3048m ASL and moves through a thicket region before you hit the Moorlands. After you start the open moorlands, there is a vertical bog as you climb to the clearing, where you see the peaks of Mount Kenya. As you go up, the moorlands thicken, becoming more attractive as you approach the Teleki Valley. Teleki Valley has beautiful vegetation and no steep sections as you cross to the other side of the valley where the Mackinders Camp is located. Though it is a hub of altitude issues and despair, its scenery is worth doing this hike. If you are not yet on the Mt. Kenya budget and want to experience it, Teleki Upsweep is also the best place.
