Sirimon-Chogoria Traverse is a Mount Kenya Expedition to Lenana Peak. This is the Ultimate four-day trek up Mount Kenya that starts at Mount Kenya Sirimon Gate and ends at the Chogoria Gate.As you ascend to the Lenana peak, leaving the ordinary world behind, you’ll be met with panoramic vistas, lakes, flora, and fauna that take your breath away and challenge your limits.

Traverse rugged landscapes, navigate through mountain passes, and conquer the unknown as you finish your acclimation journey that will redefine your perception of the possible. This will be a journey of personal growth and triumph, and reflect on the program experiences. As you reach the summit, you will close this chapter of the program and open the door to new horizons, ready to face whatever mountains and life have to offer with a newfound resilience.

The hike begins at Mount Kenya Sirimon Gate and ends at Chogoria Gate. The maximum hiking elevation gain will be approximately 2035m.

The Sirimon-Chogoria Traverse Stats


Approximate Distance: 51km

Time: 4 days

Maximum Elevation: 4985m

Difficulty: This hike requires you to be in good health and fit. Past experience from a high-altitude hike is recommended.

Itinerary


Hike Day 1
  • Leave Nairobi at 11:00 a.m
  • Register then have lunch at Sirimon Gate.
  • Start the hike to Old Moses camp.
  • Relax, and have supper.
  • Camp for the night.
  • This day, there will be an elevation gain of 1505m from Nairobi.
  • The hiking distance is approximately 9km.
Hike Day 2
  • Breakfast.
  • Pack water and lunch.
  • Start the day’s ascent to Shiptons camp (at 4200m).
  • Arrive, have a snack, and relax.
  • Take dinner and sleep for an early rise at 2:00 a.m. for the summit push.
  • There will be an elevation gain of 900m on this day.
  • The hiking distance is approximately 14km.
Day 3 (Summit Day)
  • Light breakfast at 2:00 a.m.
  • Start the trek at 2:30 a.m.
  • Slow push to the summit.
  • Twenty minutes breathtaking moment at the summit.
  • Start the descent to Mintos Hut (at 4300m) for breakfast.
  • Later, continue the descent to Lake Ellis campsite (at 3455m).
  • This day will attract an elevation gain of 785m and a loss of 1530m.
  • The hiking distance is approximately 16km.
Day 4 (Hike & Exit day)
  • Take breakfast.
  • Trek to Chogoria Gate.
  • Wrap-up as we clear with the team handover of belongings.
  • Leave for Nairobi.
  • This day will attract an elevation loss of 505m.
  • The hiking distance is approximately 7km.
