Description
Castle Forest Hydrotherapy Hike is a day hike on the slopes of Mount Kenya, with the major attractions being water. At the heart of Kirinyaga, the Castle Forest offers breathtaking scenes and experiences, from the forest’s silence to a view of many bird species, and the noise of waterfalls. There are twin falls at the starting point, the pinnacle being the Kamweti Fall on the Kamweti River.
The hike begins at Castle Forest Lodge and proceeds inside the silent lush forest. You will cross rivers along as you head to Kamweti. The trail is generally friendly, with only a few muddy sections that are easily navigable, making it an ideal destination for you and your 8-year-old+.
At the drop of the water or behind the dropping Kamweti Fall is an excellent hideout to watch the waters from, not forgetting that you can immerse in the morning cold water to utilize your change of clothes.

Departure, Hike & Return
Meeting point: City Hall Way (Kencom) opposite International House Entrance, CBD.
- 4.30 am: Boarding opens
- 4.45 am: Departure for Castle Forest Lodge (The departure time is strict)
- 8.00 am: Arrival at Castle Forest Lodge & Registration
- 1.00 pm: Mandatory turn-back time for everyone
- 5.30 pm: Departure for Nairobi
N/B: The departure time back to Nairobi is subject to the day’s tidings and could be earlier or later than estimated.
