Shipton’s Peak & Teleki Tarn

  • Naro Moru River Lodge Met Station Bandas
  • Apr 26 (1 Day)
  • Duration: Apr 26 (1 Day)

Overview

Shipton’s Peak & Teleki Tarn are at the heart of Teleki Valley, close to the top of Mount Kenya Peaks. They are just less explored sceneries at the heart of Teleki Valley. If you have been to Mackider’s Camp, Shipton’s peak is just 2 km away, and its base is Teleki Tarn.

The hike starts at Met Station at 3048m ASL and moves through a thicket region before you hit the Moorlands. After you start the open moorlands, there is a vertical bog as you climb to the clearing, where you see the peaks of Mount Kenya. As you go up, the moorlands thicken, becoming more attractive as you approach the Teleki Valley.

Shipton’s Peak & Teleki Tarn goes through the Teleki Valley, which has beautiful Senecio and Lobelia and no steep sections as you cross to the other side of the valley where Mackinder’s Camp is located. Though it is a hub of altitude issues and despair, its scenery is worth doing this hike.

If you are not yet on the Mt. Kenya budget or want to prepare for a dash along this route, Shipton’s Peak & Teleki Tarn are the best option.
